What is a Unix timestamp?
A Unix timestamp counts elapsed time from January 1, 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC. Because it identifies an instant rather than a formatted date, the same value can be displayed in any time zone.
Seconds vs. milliseconds
Many server systems use seconds, while JavaScript uses milliseconds. A current timestamp therefore has about 10 digits in seconds and 13 digits in milliseconds. This converter detects the unit automatically.
