Detailed text statistics in real time
Use the counter for articles, essays, social posts, metadata, documentation, speeches, and application limits. Results update immediately without submitting a form or uploading the text.
Character count and byte count are different
Character limits describe visible or logical text units, while byte limits describe encoded storage or network size. Non-ASCII characters usually require multiple UTF-8 bytes, so the byte count can be larger than the character count.
Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
Sequences of Unicode letters or numbers count as words. Common apostrophes inside words are preserved, so contractions such as don’t count as one word.
Are Emoji counted as characters?
Characters are counted as Unicode code points rather than UTF-16 code units. Some combined Emoji use several code points and may therefore count as more than one character.
How is reading time calculated?
Estimated reading time uses an average rate of 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute. Actual speed varies by reader, language, and content complexity.
Is my writing saved or uploaded?
No. All counts are calculated locally and the text is not sent to a server.
